Arthritis is a painful condition that causes discomfort. You may experience joint pain, stiffness, swelling or the opposite joint pain. Pain gets worse and lasts longer than a few weeks. It can be caused by a variety of things, including injury, infection, illness, medication or surgery. Arthritis can lead to long-term health conditions and potentially death.

If you have arthritis, you may have a flare-up of your arthritis. It’s possible to have flare-ups of your arthritis after using Voltaren gel or other arthritis pain relievers for a long time. But if they’re triggered by a medication, you may have to stop using these products. You may also be at risk for developing long-term health conditions, like heart disease or diabetes. That’s why it’s important to check with your healthcare provider before starting any new arthritis pain medication to prevent health conditions and death.

What is the pain reliever?

Voltaren Emulgel is used to relieve arthritis pain. It contains a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug called diclofenac. It works by relieving pain from inflammation. Voltaren gel relieves the pain of arthritis, but does not work for all types of arthritis.

Diclofenac comes as an oral tablet, oral solution, a gel or a nasal spray. It’s usually applied once a day on the affected area, and can be applied to other parts of the body. It’s important to apply the gel to the site of your least discomfort.

You can also use Voltaren Emulgel on the face, neck, arms, hands, feet, knees and feet. The pain reliever gel works by easing the swelling and stiffness that contributes to arthritis. Voltaren gel should be applied twice daily, and should be applied twice a day.

If you have a condition that causes inflammation, Voltaren Emulgel can help.

Voltaren Emulgel gel and other arthritis pain medications may contain ingredients that may cause serious side effects, including liver damage, heart attack, and kidney damage. These ingredients should be used with caution and under strict medical supervision. See the for additional information about ingredients that can cause liver damage and heart attack and other serious side effects.

How Voltaren works

Voltaren Emulgel is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) called diclofenac. It relieves pain from arthritis by reducing swelling and inflammation in the joints and body.

Diclofenac works by reducing the amount of the body’s production of a chemical called prostaglandin. The chemical released in response to pain triggers causes your joints to move more fluidly and more blood into your blood vessels, which in turn reduces pain.

Like other NSAIDs, Voltaren Emulgel can cause serious side effects. These side effects may include:

  • Liver damage or toxicity
  • Allergic reactions
  • Heart problems
  • Kidney damage
  • Liver failure
  • Allergic reactions.

Talk to your healthcare provider before using Voltaren Emulgel to rule out any possible drug interactions. Your healthcare provider will assess your health and determine if it’s safe for you to use these products.

Voltaren Emulgel may interact with certain medications, including over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen and aspirin. Your healthcare provider may test your blood to identify substances that can affect Voltaren Emulgel’s effect. Tell your provider about all the medications you’re taking, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins and supplements.

Voltaren Emulgel may also interact with certain foods and drinks, including coffee, alcohol, grapefruit juice, non-alcoholic beverage, and coffee. Talk to your provider about all the foods you’re taking before you consume them. If you’re not sure what to avoid while using Voltaren Emulgel, talk to your healthcare provider.

If you have any questions about using Voltaren Emulgel, talk with your healthcare provider. They can help determine if Voltaren Emulgel is the right treatment for you and prescribe the best possible dosage and use.

Is Voltaren a pain reliever?

While it’s possible to have a flare-up of arthritis after using Voltaren gel or other arthritis pain relievers, it’s not always possible. It’s important to understand the symptoms of arthritis before using Voltaren.
